Maintenance Engineer

Shifts: 4 on 4 off – Days & Nights

Location: Chester

Salary: £44,000 base + overtime (earn £46-48K OTE). Salary rising to £50,000 once the training matrix is complete.

Our client is looking for a hands-on, proactive Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team on a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern (days & nights, 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am).

This role is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified engineer or an experienced engineer looking to expand their skill set. With a comprehensive training matrix in place, we actively support career development and cross-skilling — for example, offering pathways for mechanical engineers to gain electrical qualifications, including the 18th Edition certification. We invest heavily in our people, with a clear internal training matrix linked to salary. Your career and earnings can progress to £50K+ with development.

The Role

As a Maintenance Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

  • Reactive maintenance across the site - keeping operations running smoothly.
  • Working with a wide range of equipment: compressors, boilers, pumps, valves, pneumatics, motors, and hydraulics (pumps/seals).
  • Facilities and plant maintenance.
  • PLC fault finding (bespoke/obscure German systems - no programming required).
  • PPMs managed through our CMMS system (mainly carried out on night shifts).
  • Occasional welding (TIG/Stick) - desirable but not essential.
Prospects & Training

We invest heavily in our people, with a clear internal training matrix linked to salary. Your career and earnings can progress to £50K+ with development.

What you'll get

Initial Training: Site systems, health & safety, and equipment training when you start.

Future Development: Structured progression and cross-skilling opportunities.

Extra Qualifications:

  • Boiler Training (STEAM) - intensive BOAS and LTA (Laundry Technology Academy).
  • 18th Edition, NVQ 3 Electrical, HNC.
  • IOSH Safety Training.
  • NVQ Multi-Skilling & Management Courses.
  • Additional technical upskilling (pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, etc.).

If training is beneficial to both you and the company, we'll invest in it.

Pay & Benefits

Salary: £44,000 basic (earn an extra £2K-£7K with overtime).

Contracted hours: 42 per week (4 on / 4 off, 12-hour shifts).

Overtime: Plenty available, shared across the team.

Life Assurance: x1 annual salary.
