Group Maintenance Engineer - Bury (with support to Bradford)
Salary: £35,000-£38,500 + overtime (1.5x after 40 hours)
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 6am-4pm (40 hours, paid lunch). Friday only if required.
Start: ASAP
Type: Permanent, full-time

Role Overview

Hands‑on maintenance role covering machinery, site services, statutory compliance and facilities support across two manufacturing sites. You will work independently as the on‑site maintenance lead and coordinate external contractors when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering planned preventive maintenance
  • Responding quickly to breakdowns and keeping accurate maintenance records
  • Reviewing statutory and insurance inspection reports and completing required actions
  • Working on steam boilers, coating lines, gas curing ovens, compressed air systems, LEV and extraction
  • Supporting a DSEAR‑zoned environment where solvents are used
  • Carrying out first‑line electrical fault finding including motors, panels and lighting
  • Managing facilities work including lighting, HVAC, drains, building fabric and small practical repairs
  • Supervising external contractors and ensuring safe systems of work
  • Supporting other sites on short‑term or advisory tasks when required
  • Identifying cost‑saving opportunities around energy, compressed air and repairs
Skills and Experience Required
  • Hands‑on maintenance experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong mechanical skills with good electrical fault‑finding ability
  • Experience with drives, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics and conveyors
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
  • Confidence working safely in solvent‑handling and DSEAR areas
  • Competence reviewing inspection reports for pressure systems, LEV and LOLER
  • Ability to supervise contractors and follow health and safety procedures
  • Basic IT and admin skills for maintenance logging
Desirable Experience
  • Exposure to coatings, textiles, laminating or continuous/batch production processes
  • Experience working with steam boilers or extraction systems
  • Knowledge of insurance engineer processes and statutory compliance
  • Lean or continuous improvement understanding
  • IOSH or similar qualification
Additional Information

Very rare call‑out; you must live within 15‑20 minutes of the site
Full handover available due to retirement of current manager
Role is based in Bury with occasional travel to Bradford
