Job summary

A facilities management company is seeking a Maintenance Electrician to perform essential maintenance work in a secure prison environment. This role includes ensuring compliance with Health & Safety standards while responding to electrical breakdowns and conducting planned maintenance. Candidates need relevant technical qualifications, including the BS7671 Wiring Regulations, and should have experience in electrical systems. Additional responsibilities include monitoring spare parts and supporting sustainability initiatives.

Job description

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Maintenance Electrician in HMP Stocken.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, 08.00 – 17.00 with an hour earlier finish every Friday. There is a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Electrician plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the courts is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What you will do:
  • Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
  • Testing and inspecting electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations
  • Responding promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently
  • Performing planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnosing/replacing failed domestic electrical components
  • Actively fault finding and problem solving on domestic electrical systems
  • Undertaking electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations
  • Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services, and oversee the BMS System
  • Supporting zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals, and handling additional tasks as directed by your line manager
What you will bring:
  • Appropriate technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1-3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above).
  • BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution, installation, and testing.
  • Ability to work alone and use initiative.
  • Capable of working at heights.
