A community-focused hospice in Runcorn seeks a Maintenance Assistant to provide support in general maintenance tasks, including outdoor grounds upkeep and facilities management. The ideal candidate should have prior experience, a strong commitment to health and safety, and be willing to ensure outstanding care for patients. The role includes driving duties and may be physically demanding.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for anexperienced Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Halton Haven Hospice.
Theideal candidate will be able to provide outstanding support to the FacilitiesManager, complying with Health and Safety management processes, experienceworking within a similar environment would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will work in a small teamto complete general maintenance tasks around the Hospice, including itsexterior grounds and the retail premises.This role will include some driving and may at times be physicallydemanding.
The successful post holder will have a positive attitude, be highly motivated, enthusiastic and friendly. They will be willing to go above and beyond toensure that our patients receive outstanding care.
This post will includeon-call responsibly on a rotation basis every other week & every other weekend.

MAINDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Toundertake on a daily basis the minor repairs recorded in the faults book
Toundertake painting and decorating of patient rooms and other areas as required
Toundertake all regular cleaning tasks stated in the Maintenance programme
To beresponsible for the routine maintenance of the external pathways ensuring thesedo not present a hazard to patients, visitors or staff
Toroutinely check the external guttering and drains ensuring the pipe work isintact and kept clear
Toensure the outbuildings are maintained and in satisfactory condition
Toroutinely check the Hospices air conditioning units
Toroutinely check the ironmongery within the building repairing/replacing this asnecessary
Inconjunction with the Maintenance person be responsible for the safe moving ofheavy equipment within the building
Toattend meetings relevant to the role
Assistto participate in the security of the building and contents of the Hospice
Toundertake workplace safety checks quarterly, and compiling action plan of worksto be completed updating the Health & Safety Database

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To be responsible for the routine maintenance of the external pathways ensuring these do not present a hazard to patients, visitors or staff

To routinely check the Hospices air conditioning units
To routinely check the ironmongery within the building repairing/replacing this as necessary
In conjunction with the Maintenance person be responsible for the safe moving of heavy equipment within the building
To attend meetings relevant to the role
Assist to participate in the security of the building and contents of the Hospice
To undertake workplace safety checks quarterly, and compiling action plan of works to be completed updating the Health & Safety Database
To undertake Maintenance Audits quarterly and compiling action plan of works to be completed updating the Health & Safety Database.
FIRE SAFETY
To assist the Maintenance Assistant in his role and complete checks as trained and deemed capable of fulfilling
To complete Fire Alarm checks as/when appropriate
To complete relevant fire extinguisher checks as and when appropriate
To monitor fire doors, emergency lighting and emergency exits to ensure that they are fit for purpose at all times
To report all issues of concern promptly to the Facilities Manager.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
To undergo such education and training as may be necessary to competently carry out the post

COMMUNICATION
Maintain open communication both with and outside the team
To carry out all duties involving patients and their families in a courteous and respectful manner
To report all mishaps/accidents as and when they occur to the person in charge
To report any equipment faults as and when they occur to the person in charge
Maintain departmental, patient and whole Hospice confidentiality
GENERAL
To act responsibly at all times ensuring that any actions do not bring the Hospice into disrepute
To contribute to the team working and efficient functioning of the Hospice
To ensure compliance with the Hospices policies and procedures and have regard for the employees obligations under the Health and Safety work act 1974
To attend Fire Safety Training as required and demonstrate awareness of the correct procedure to be undertaken in the event of a fire
To attend and participate in such meetings and events as may reasonably required
To complete mandatory e-learning training
