Job summary

Witherslack Group is seeking a maintenance worker to keep the school building and grounds in excellent condition. You will perform daily repairs, manage routine vehicle maintenance, and help ensure a welcoming environment for pupils.

The role includes safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS check, reflecting our commitment to student welfare. You will join a supportive team within a growing educational network.

Qualifications

• Proven maintenance skills suitable for a school environment.
• Willingness to undertake Health & Safety training and safeguarding basics.
• Proactive attitude with ability to work independently and with a team.
• Desire to contribute to the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and transport.

Responsibilities

• Perform general day-to-day repairs to keep the school running smoothly.
• Drive school vehicles and maintain them in good order.
• Keep school grounds and garden tidy and safe for students and staff.
• Engage with pupils in a friendly way and follow safeguarding guidelines.

Being a maintenance worker in our school means being part of something big. You’ll be doing your bit to make sure the school building is a great place to be for our young people.

Get out what you put in

You’ll do all the general, day-to-day repairs needed to keep our school up and running, drive the school vehicles and keep them in good working order, as well as making sure the school grounds and garden are kept neat and tidy. You’ll also be a familiar, friendly face, this means our young people will sometimes stop to chat to you so we’ll give you some training on child safeguarding to give you that extra confidence!

We are proud to announce our plans to expand the Secret Garden school opening in the Autumn of 2026.

This will take the form of a purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art primary campus and will cater for up to 40 pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism and social, emotional, and mental health needs. This exciting new opportunity will continue to serve Coventry and the wider communities; and will further enhance the first‑class service that the Secret Garden has always delivered.
