Maintenance Assistant - Kettering

Type: Permanent
Hours: Day Shift - 12-hour shifts on a 4-on, 4-off rota (06:00am - 18:00pm)
Start Date: Immediate
Starting Salary: £26,640 - £29,650 per year

Our client, a leading organisation in the recycling sector, is seeking a proactive and technically minded Maintenance Assistant to join their team. You will work closely with senior engineers and managers to uphold safety standards and ensure operational efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to enter the engineering profession, especially those with a technical background and a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving. Being supported by an excellent management team, this role offers the opportunity for someone to develop within the engineering sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support maintenance engineers in repairing machinery and facilities.
  • Maintain and follow service schedules in line with manufacturer guidelines and internal systems.
  • Assist with on‑site repairs and breakdowns.
  • Conduct daily equipment checks before and during shifts.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and maintain accurate records of tools and supplies.
  • Report issues to the Head of Maintenance or Site Operations Manager.
  • Adhere to company health and safety standards.
  • Ensure thorough handovers between day and night shifts using site‑specific templates.
Candidate Requirements
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge, with a willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with optical sorters, ballistic separators, and conveyor belts is advantageous (training provided).
  • Understanding of health and safety practices is desirable.
  • A proactive attitude with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to assist in resolving plant issues alongside engineers.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under pressure.
  • Experience in the recycling sector is a plus.
