Connect Personnel in Gillingham, Kent, seeks an experienced Machine Shop Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy workshop. The role combines shop floor leadership with hands-on machinery operation and active involvement across adjacent production activities.

The ideal candidate will have proven leadership, strong organisational skills and hands-on experience with brake presses, laser cutters and band saws, and will manage a small, close-knit team in a family-run environment.

Responsibilities

• Managing the day-to-day operations of the machine shop.
• Setting up and operating machinery including Brake Presses, Laser Cutting Machines and Band Saws.
• Supporting production processes and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
• Assisting with despatch activities as required.
• Organising and overseeing deliveries, including taking charge of delivery operations when necessary.
• Leading and motivating a small team while maintaining a positive and productive working environment.

Machine Shop Manager

Gillingham, Kent

Our client, a successful and well established family run business based in Gillingham, is seeking an experienced and adaptable Machine Shop Manager to join their team.

This is a varied and hands on role that would suit an individual who enjoys leading from the front and contributing across all areas of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the machine shop while also being willing to operate machinery and support wider operational activities when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing the day-to-day operations of the machine shop.
• Setting up and operating machinery including:
  • Brake Presses
  • Laser Cutting Machines
  • Band Saws
• Supporting production processes and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
• Assisting with despatch activities as required.
• Organising and overseeing deliveries, including taking charge of delivery operations when necessary.
• Leading and motivating a small team while maintaining a positive and productive working environment.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 4:00pm
• Flexibility is essential, as occasional cover for the afternoon shift may be required to meet business needs.

• Previous experience within a machine shop or fabrication/manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills.
• Hands on approach with the willingness to support all areas of the business.
• Experience operating machinery such as brake presses, laser cutters and band saws.
• Reliable, flexible and able to integrate quickly into a close knit team.
