Job summary

Worldwide Fruit Limited in the United Kingdom is seeking a motivated Machine Operative to support the production team, ensuring machines are safe to operate and set up before each product run.

You will follow defined programmes, check packaging and labels, monitor changeovers to minimise downtime, and report faults to Engineering promptly. You may assist with packing, stacking or loading on the line and contribute to hygiene and health & safety standards as part of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing or packaging environment preferred.
• Ability to follow precise procedures and work safely.

Responsibilities

• To ensure the machine is clean, safe to operate, with all guards and stops working and in place, before the machine is operated on the first run of each shift, or after engineering works.
• To ensure the machine runs in accordance with technical specifications by selecting the defined programme settings and checking correct packaging and label details.
• To monitor packaging on the line to minimise downtime on changeover by ensuring sufficient stock is in place.
• To investigate and resolve machine issues where possible and report more serious faults to Engineering without delay.
• To ensure specific organic procedures are observed and carried out.
• To ensure non-qualified staff do not operate machinery and that no unauthorised modifications are made.
• To undertake duties on the line such as packing, stacking or loading as required.
• In conjunction with the Line Leader, manage problems related to agency staffing, stock, paperwork, delays, or anything not understood.
• To promote Hygiene, Health & Safety standards and support environmental best practise and the Company’s efforts to minimise environmental impact.
• To identify areas of continuous improvement and communicate ideas to relevant staff using tools like 5S and root-cause analysis.

Job description

As a Machine Operative you support the production team ensuring that the machines are safe to operate and are set up before each product run.

Responsibilities include:

• To ensure the machine is clean, safe to operate, with all guards and stops working and in place, before the machine is operated on the first run of each shift, or as and when any engineering works have been carried out. To ensure the correct traceability documentation (start-up check) is completed.
• To ensure the machine runs in accordance with technical specifications, by selecting the defined programme settings, and checking the correct packaging and label details are being used.
• To monitor packaging used on the line to minimise downtime on changeover, by ensuring there is always sufficient in place.
• To investigate and resolve machine issues wherever possible to reduce downtime. To report more serious faults to Engineering without delay.
• To ensure specific organic procedures are observed and carried out.
• To ensure non-qualified staff do not operate machinery and equipment, and that no unauthorised modifications are made.
• To undertake any duties on the line as required, for example, packing, stacking or loading.
• In conjunction with the Line Leader, manage problems in relation to agency staffing, stock, paperwork, delays, or anything not understood.
• To actively promote best practice in relation to Hygiene, Health & Safety standards and good housekeeping and support the Company’s efforts to minimise its environmental impact and adopt environmental best practise.
• To look to identify areas of continuous improvement and communicate ideas to relevant staff. To use tools and techniques such as 5s, root cause.
