RedTech Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Machine Learning Researcher in Cambridge for hybrid work. The role focuses on LLMs, translating research into practical AI products such as copilots, agents, and enterprise search tools.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in ML or related fields and have strong PyTorch experience, with the ability to collaborate with software engineers to implement research outcomes. Knowledge of LangChain/LangGraph and Linux/Git is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Explore and prototype machine learning solutions with a focus on LLMs and practical applications.
• Develop and improve AI applications such as copilots, agents, enterprise search tools and workflow automation.
• Work with data, APIs and business processes to turn AI research into useful products.
• Apply language models, neural networks and classical ML techniques where appropriate.
• Collaborate with software development and security analysis teams to test and implement results.
• Implement models within the wider software stack and optimise for latency and memory, including on edge devices.
• Work independently on research while contributing to team projects.

Machine Learning Researcher

A fantastic opportunity for a Machine Learning Researcher with a strong academic background and a particular interest in Large Language Models. You will help develop practical AI applications, from early research and experimentation through to implementation, working with software engineers to bring ideas into real products. The focus is on LLMs and applications such as AI copilots, agents, enterprise search and workflow automation. Relevant experience can come from PhD research or projects, so candidates who have recently completed their PhD are welcome.

Location:

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, hybrid working with compulsory attendance at the office 2 days per week

Salary:

£60,000 to £80,000 per annum + benefits. A salary of £60,000 is available for a recent PhD graduate, with higher salaries for candidates with relevant experience.

Requirements for Machine Learning Researcher:

• PhD in Machine Learning or a related discipline
• A strong academic record
• Experience using PyTorch
• LLM-focused experience through research, academic projects or commercial work. This is a key part of the role, and commercial experience is not essential
• Experience with a range of machine learning techniques
• Ability to work with software engineers to take ideas from experimentation towards practical implementation
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of stakeholders
• Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
