Position: M&A Associate

M&A is fundamental to the Sumer business model and is critical to the overall growth strategy. Sat at the centre of the Sumer Group, this role will be part of a small M&A team that is dedicated to executing M&A opportunities across the UK and potentially internationally. A fast‑paced and diverse role, working in a collaborative culture, it requires high‑energy, experience of the M&A lifecycle and most importantly, an open mindset and willingness to learn!
Key Responsibilities
- Researching, collecting and organising financial and operational data from multiple sources in order to inform the M&A strategy.
- Helping to drive and maintain data accuracy, integrity, and consistency in support of M&A activity.
- Working with the M&A team to evaluate potential new acquisitions targets against set criteria and performance KPIS.
- Support the production and drafting of compelling board level reports associated with the acquisition strategy, as well as the ongoing performing monitoring of acquisitions across set KPIs.
- Support financial due diligence activity conducted by the Sumer M&A team on potential targets.
- Building relationships with a number of stakeholders outside of the direct M&A team: Sumer Exco and the Board, third party introducers, management teams of potential targets, management teams of acquired target.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Demonstrable experience working in M&A related functions e.g. transactions services or corporate finance
- Knowledge/qualifications relating to financial performance (eg. ACA, relevant degree or training)
- Strong analytical and data modelling skills including high degree of competency using supporting tools such as Microsoft Excel and other data visualisation tools; Power BI experience would preferable but not critical
- Strong report‑writing and documentation skillsAn ability to be innovative and be creative with data to make it accessible and meaningful
- Commercial mindset, ability to be flexible and take on new challenges
