Job summary

Girls United Football Association is seeking a dedicated Lead FC Coach for the U9 Purple team in London. You will deliver structured sessions and manage matchday experiences, while mentoring assistant coaches and building positive relationships with players and communities.

The role involves flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and contributes to a growing pathway for girls through our Play Like a Girl and Love The Game programmes across local venues.

Qualifications

• Experience working in grassroots football with young women and girls.
• FA Level 2 in Football Coaching or working towards it; safeguarding and first aid required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with players, parents and venues.

Responsibilities

• Attend sessions, events and fixtures as agreed with the FC Programme Lead.
• Oversee and support assistant coaches delivering sessions.
• Build rapport with players to sustain engagement with Girls United programmes.
• Collaborate with volunteers, staff and partner venues to deliver programmes.
• Support league administration on match days using the League App.
• Contribute ideas for new programmes and growth opportunities.

Hours

Up to 5 hours of additional Admin per month (assorted tasks, more details available)

Wednesday - 6:00pm to 7:30pm @ Burgess Park Community Astroturf, Cobourg Road, SE5 0JB

Thursday - 5:00pm to 6:00pm @ Charter School North Dulwich, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JH

Sunday - Griffin Sports Ground, 12 Dulwich Village, SE21 7AL (home ground for fixtures)

Must be able to commit to training and match days

Salary

Lead Coach £17.50p/h (for training we pay an extra 15 minutes set-up plus session delivery time, and match days are 2 hours of work for lead coach, 1.75 hours for assistant coach). Additional 5 hours of admin per month are billed at £13.50 per hour of logged, agreed work.

Description

The position of the FC Lead Coach consists of delivering structured, age-appropriate training sessions and matchday experiences, with the main focus working with our U9 Purple team that plays in the Tandridge Youth Football League. The position will include delivery of practical sessions, supporting/developing players and working alongside our existing workforce. The position will be for someone who wants to work within an environment to make a positive contribution to the community. Girls United has a growing player pathway through our Play Like a Girl and Love The Game programmes for new girls to take part in football, through our social play sessions during the week to our FC teams who train and take part in league fixtures. Our player pathway also extends onwards from Girls United into local ETC and PGA programmes.

Responsibilities

• attending sessions, events and fixtures agreed in advance with the FC Programme Lead.
• the ability to oversee & support assistant coaches who will be delivering parts or whole sessions.
• building rapport and trust with players, attendees and young people to ensure they continue to engage with Girls United through their programmes. The aim will be to support our community to develop on and off the pitch through the power of football.
• working collaboratively with other team members including but not exclusive to; other volunteers, sessional staff and contracted staff within Girls United London.
• supporting in creating and maintaining a positive relationship with community groups and partner organisations (such as venues) to deliver these programmes.
• supporting the wider team with developing the organisation with new ideas, new programmes and new opportunities of growth, experience and delivery.
• involvement within fixture programme/days - supporting with league administration on the day (using the League App), supporting with officiating of matches, and providing assistance to our team of players.

Essential and Desirable Qualities and Qualifications

• Experiences - Someone who has experience with working in grassroots football and with young women and girls (E). Including delivering sessions and a fixture programme (E)
• Qualifications - FA Level 2 in Football Coaching (or working towards) including an in-date qualification for Safeguarding Children and First Aid in Football. (E)
• Experience of league administration such as match cards, player cards and match reports. (E)
• Working with an assistant coach. (D)
• Communication - someone who is confident to speak and build positive rapport with various people within the community. For example but not exclusive to players, parents, venues, schools, and funders etc. (E)
• Organisation skills - someone who is able to manage their time effectively and ensure they are punctual in completing their administration tasks alongside attending sessions and other in-person activities. (E)
• Adaptability and flexibility – work in a fluid, fast-paced and exciting environment of football. Understanding that hours are often across unsocial times such as weekends and evenings due to our contact with the community of players we have within Girls United FA. (E)
