Overview

Here at Lockheed Martin we are seeking a Logistics Software Engineer to enhance its software development capability and provide ongoing support for a suite of applications used by both internal stakeholders and Ministry of Defence (MoD) customers. This role requires an experienced and innovative professional who can assume ownership of both new and existing development projects. The successful candidate will be capable of defining technical requirements, managing development tasks, and delivering high-quality software solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the full software development lifecycle, from initial concept and system design through to implementation, testing, deployment, and in-service support.
  • Develop and maintain user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks to deliver intuitive and responsive user experiences.
  • Design, build, and optimise server-side architecture, databases, and APIs to ensure reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users to gather, analyse, and translate operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software and system issues, ensuring performance, security, and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and automation, to enhance existing and future software capabilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, promoting best practices in software engineering, documentation, and configuration management.
Essential qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Proven experience in full-stack software development, including front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in C#, .NET, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Experience designing and implementing relational databases (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Oracle).
  • Demonstrable understanding of software development methodologies, version control, and testing frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to hold or obtain UK Security Clearance.
Desirable qualifications
  • Experience working within a defence, aerospace, or government environment.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, containerisation (e.g. Docker), or cloud-based deployment.
  • Understanding of data integration, analytics, and AI/ML concepts.
  • Knowledge of Agile delivery methods and associated tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Git).
  • Awareness of information assurance, cybersecurity principles, and MoD information management standards.
