Job summary

Teledyne Valeport, located at the riverside premises in Totnes, Devon, is seeking a Logistics & Shipping Supervisor to lead a small team and ensure high standards of shipping, documentation and regulatory compliance. The role is 100% site-based at St Peters Quay, Totnes.

The successful candidate will manage export control paperwork, liaise with the Customs Analyst, and maintain SOPs to support accurate, compliant shipments and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a controlled shipping environment (dangerous or export controlled goods).
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to supervise a small team including daily workload, priority setting and annual performance reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team including a Logistics Co-ordinator and Manufacturing Operations Trainee.
  • Ensure shipments are made on a timely basis in line with customer/supplier requirements and 100% on-time delivery.
  • Ensure correct end-user paperwork is received and make licence applications as required.
  • Ensure goods are not shipped until correct authorisations are in place.
  • Oversee customs processes to ensure accuracy of entries and clearance instructions.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for shipping and logistics in compliance with regulations.

We are looking for a Logistics & Shipping Supervisor to join our business, managing a small team.

Please note that this role is 100% site-based at St Peters Quay, Totnes, Devon.

Job Purpose

Responsible for all aspects of logistics and shipping, ensuring high levels of customer service, on-time delivery, inventory control and compliance with all applicable corporate, legal and regulatory requirements for shipping of standard, export controlled and dangerous goods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a small team consisting of a Logistics Co-ordinator and Manufacturing Operations Trainee.
  • Upon notification of goods readiness and in line with all corporate and regulatory requirements, ensure shipments are made on a timely basis in line with customer/supplier requirements and with the intention of achieving 100% on-time delivery.
  • Ensure correct end-user paperwork is received and make licence applications in accordance with all relevant regulations.
  • Ensure goods are not shipped until correct authorisations are in place.
  • Ensure software and technology exports and transfers are adequately controlled in line with current regulations.
  • Work with the Customs Analyst to oversee customs processes to ensure accuracy of entries and clearance instructions.
  • Manage and maintain standard operating procedures pertaining to shipping and logistics with reference to compliance for goods inward and outward transactions.
  • With the Customs Analyst ensure compliance with Corporate procedures for including post entry review, HTS Classification, Country of Origin, valuation & preference, export classification, export licencing and sanctions compliance.
  • Identifying potential areas of vulnerability and risk within the organisation.
  • Evaluate, investigate and communicate potential risks to the Operations Director along with actions to mitigate.
  • Act as a point of contact for any internal or external enquiries and audits related to shipping and logistics.
  • Provide assistance as required for any internal or external enquiries and audits related to export/import compliance.
  • Identify all training needs within the Shipping & Logistics organisation.
  • Ensure complete and through records are kept and efficiently maintained for all shipments.
  • Ensure all operating areas are kept clean, tidy and secure.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Experience in a controlled shipping environment (dangerous or export controlled goods).
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to supervise a small team including daily workload, priority setting and annual performance reviews.
  • Strong computer skills, ERP skills a plus (IFS preferable).
  • Preferred: Working knowledge & recent experience of UK customs regulations for import and export compliance, policies, documentation and processes including Inward Processing Relief (IPR) and export clearance is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of export controls as they apply to general commercial product lines.
  • Knowledge of UK Government export licensing and application processes.
