Job Summary
This role supports the company’s repair operations by managing the flow of aircraft wheels and brakes through the logistics process. The Logistics Operative II will book in units when they arrive, record them in the system, and ensure all parts are correctly identified and tracked. Using work orders and computer systems, you will determine the required work scope and route units accordingly. Once repairs are complete, you will prepare and dispatch units for return to service, ensuring all documentation and control requirements are met.
Duties & Responsibilities
Goods In
- Receive incoming aircraft wheels, brakes, and related components from customers or suppliers.
- Check delivery paperwork against physical items to confirm accuracy and completeness.
- Record all arrivals in the relevant computer systems, assigning identification tags and work order references.
- Inspect packaging for signs of damage and report any issues to the relevant department.
- Move goods to the correct storage or production area using safe handling techniques and equipment.
Dispatch
- Book and coordinate daily dispatch of repaired aircraft wheels and brakes, ensuring on-time delivery to customers.
- Prepare shipping documents, including air waybills, packing lists, commercial invoices and any customer‑specific paperwork.
- Select and prepare suitable packing materials, ensuring compliance with aviation and international shipping regulations.
- Inspect all items before they are packed, ready for shipment. Check for any visible damage, chips in paint etc. Report any faults to Workshop Manager and Safety Department.
- Schedule collections with freight forwarders, couriers, and logistics providers, providing all necessary shipment details.
- Assist with resolving shipping issues, delays or customs problems by liaising with relevant parties.
- Maintain accurate records of all units dispatched, including tracking details and proof of delivery.
Minimum Requirements
- NVQ Level 1, Vocational Qualification Level 1, GCSE grade D‑G, ESOL Skills for Functional Skills Level 1 English, Maths & ICT.
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting work instructions, maintenance manuals, customer specifications and shipping regulations.
- Confident use of PC‑based systems for data entry, inventory management and document preparation.
- Proven experience in booking in goods, creating work orders and processing dispatch documentation such as air waybills, packing lists and commercial invoices.
- Good working knowledge of packaging requirements for aviation components, including IATA Dangerous Goods awareness (if applicable).
- Familiarity with freight booking systems and working with multiple logistics providers.
- Ability to use and maintain basic tools and handling equipment such as pallet trucks, trolleys and measuring devices.
- Understanding of metrology equipment for basic inspection and verification tasks.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations relevant to a logistics/aviation environment.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a logistics, warehouse or parts handling role, preferably within an aviation or engineering environment.
- Experience working to deadlines and managing multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to handle customer‑specific shipping requirements and resolve delivery issues.
- Professional, positive and solution‑focused approach.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in both documentation and physical handling of goods.
- Reliable, punctual and consistent in meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong teamwork skills.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and urgent requirements.
Preferred Requirements
- Additional training or certificates in logistics, warehousing or aviation parts handling are desirable.
