Job summary

Brandon Hire Station is seeking a organised Logistics Manager to oversee depot transport operations in Salford, leading drivers and branch staff while ensuring safety, efficiency and punctual deliveries.

You will report to the Branch Manager, drive improvements, support customer service, and maintain compliance with health and safety standards. The role requires leadership, planning, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience in transport, logistics or fleet operations.
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of FORS accreditation and tachograph regulations desirable.
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Driver and Branch Assistant team.
  • Plan and coordinate daily transport operations to meet KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation and Health & Safety standards.
  • Liaise with customers to provide delivery updates and schedule changes.
  • Support Branch Manager in recruitment, onboarding and training of the logistics team.
  • Monitor vehicle inspections and repairs with third-party suppliers to minimise downtime.
  • Oversee driver training, tachograph processes, and documentation collection.
  • Drive efficiency and profitability through effective planning and resource management.
  • Manage driver administration including delivery photos and signatures.

Job description

Job Introduction

We’re looking for an organised and proactive Logistics Manager to oversee all transport operations within the depot, ensuring every delivery and collection is completed safely, efficiently and on time.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the depot’s transport function, leading our team of Drivers and Branch Assistants, and ensuring full compliance with legal, company and Health & Safety standards. You’ll also provide operational support to the Branch Manager and deputise during periods of absence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate and manage the Driver and Branch Assistant team, supporting their development and performance.
  • Plan and coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently and in line with company KPIs.
  • Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, company procedures and Health & Safety standards.
  • Liaise with customers to provide updates on deliveries, collections and any changes to schedules.
  • Support the Branch Manager in resolving customer queries and delivering excellent customer service.
  • Drive transport efficiency, supporting branch profitability through effective planning and resource management.
  • Monitor vehicle inspections, defect reporting and repairs, working closely with third-party suppliers to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure driver compliance by monitoring training, tachograph downloads, infringements and debrief processes.
  • Review driver administration, ensuring delivery photographs, signatures and documentation are completed accurately.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance reviews for the logistics team.
  • Carry out additional duties where required to support the smooth running of the branch.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience managing transport, logistics or fleet operations, ideally within a hire, construction or service-led environment.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
  • Knowledge of transport compliance, including FORS accreditation and EU/GB Tachograph regulations, would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
  • A proactive approach with a strong focus on customer service, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality compliance.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office and digital management systems.
  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
