Locum Civil Litigation Advocate – London Local Authority – Full Time – Daily attendance

Venn Group is partnering with a dynamic and forward-thinking London Borough in their search for a Locum Civil Litigation Advocate, offering up to £500 per day (umbrella) for an initial 3 month contract with the intention to transition into a permanent post.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or Barrister (with higher rights of audience) to take a leading role in delivering high-quality advocacy across the Council’s civil litigation work, primarily within housing and homelessness matters, with occasional involvement in judicial review cases.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointed Advocate will:

  • Conduct advocacy in a range of civil litigation hearings, with a particular focus on housing and homelessness matters
  • Provide ad hoc case advice and mentoring to in-house fee earners
  • Work collaboratively to reduce reliance on external counsel, supporting the Council’s cost-efficiency aims
  • Act as a visible and proactive in-house advocate, raising internal standards and contributing to professional development across the legal team
  • Represent the authority in County Court and other relevant forums as required
Preferred Experience
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current Practising Certificate and Higher Rights of Audience
  • Demonstrable experience in civil litigation advocacy, ideally with a background in housing or local government work
  • Strong courtroom presence and ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both colleagues and client departments
