• Must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive with the appropriate qualifications enabling them to work without close supervision
• Experience handling a mixed SEN and Education caseload within a Local Authority setting

Responsibilities

• Handle a mixed Education and SEN caseload on behalf of a local authority
• Advise schools and multi-academy trusts on governance and regulatory issues
• Advise on SEN tribunal matters, admissions, exclusions and safeguarding
• Provide practical, commercial legal advice to education providers
• Assist with policy reviews and challenging provision or placement decisions
• Assist in Judicial Review discussions and related litigation

Locum Education/SEN Lawyer – Midlands – 3-6 months + – Remote Working – Up to £70 per hour (Umbrella)

Venn group’s specialist legal team are currently recruiting for a Locum Education & SEN Lawyer to join a reputable Midlands-based local authority from December 2026. This opportunity is on an initial term of 3-6 months with an ongoing contract. The role will be remote working, and ideally full-time hours, but part-time candidates can also be considered.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

• Must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or legal executive with the appropriate additional qualifications/experience enabling them to work without close supervision
• Experienced in handling a mixed SEN and Education caseload within a Local Authority setting

Duties and responsibilities for this post may include:

• Handling a mixed Education and SEN caseload, acting on behalf of the local authority
• Advising schools, academies and multi-academy trusts on governance and regulatory issues
• Handling SEND matters, admissions, exclusions and safeguarding issues
• Advising on SEND tribunal matters and complaints handling
• Delivering practical, commercial and solution-focused legal advice to education providers
• Dealing with challenges in relation to provision, placement and the LA's refusal to carry out an assessment of a child's special educational needs
• Advising on suitable placements in respect of a child's special educational needs
• Dealing with claims for Judicial Review
• Assisting in the review of policies
