The Emergency Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital is looking to recruit a locum consultant in Emergency Medicine for a fixed term period of 12months to cover maternity leave.
Our Emergency Department sees over 150 000 patients per year and approximately 25% of these are children.
The current department opened in 2002, with a dedicated paediatric area that opened in December 2010, with some subsequent extensions.

There are 20 majors assessment bays, a mental health assessment room and an ambulatory assessment area. There is an adjacent minor injury assessment unit with treatment bays and dedicated x-ray facilities staffed by emergency nurse practitioners from 07:00 to midnight every day.
The paediatric ED has recently been extended and now has 10 cubicles including one higher acuity bay where paediatric sedation can be performed safely and a dedicated waiting room.
We are developing a 10 bedded older persons assessment unit within the ED which is staffed with frailty practitioners and support from the interface geriatric team.
The department has consultant shop floor presence between 8 am and midnight every day supported by a registrar tier comprised of specialty trainees and SAS doctors. There is a full junior tier comprising resident doctors, Advanced Care Practitioners (ACPs) and Physician Associates (PAs).
