Job description

Job Title: Temporary Criminal Solicitor

Location: Sheffield S10

Duration: 4-6 Weeks initially / 2-3 days a week

Start Date: ASAP

Purpose of Role

The successful candidate will join the team to provide expert legal advice and representation for clients facing criminal charges. As a Temporary Criminal Solicitor, you will manage a varied caseload, ensuring the highest standards of professional conduct and client care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Representation & Advice:
    • Represent clients at the police station, Magistrates' and Crown Courts.
    • Provide timely and expert legal advice on criminal law matters.
  • Case Management:
    • Prepare and manage cases for trial, including reviewing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing legal documents.
    • Ensure efficient and effective case progression from inception to conclusion.
  • Court Appearances:
    • Conduct advocacy in court when necessary.
    • Instruct barristers and liaise with other professionals, as required.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, keeping them informed of progress and developments.
    • Collaborate closely with colleagues, sharing knowledge and assisting with cases as necessary.
  • Compliance & Ethics:
    • Adhere to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Code of Conduct and all firm policies.
    • Ensure all work is compliant with data protection and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Continuous Development:
    • Stay updated with the latest changes in criminal law and practice.
    • Attend relevant training sessions and seminars.
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Qualified Solicitor with a practising certificate.
  • Experience in criminal law, preferably with a proven track record of successful case handling.
  • Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
