Job summary

This is a fixed term appointment of a Vascular surgeon to support the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Vascular Centre. The post is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but the post holder will work across hospital sites. The post holder will be responsible for the continued delivery and further enhancement of a highly regarded Vascular Service for patients living within the catchment area Doncaster and Bassetlaw, and surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job
  • To maintain the highest clinical standards in the care of patients with Vascular problems
  • To provide out-patient and in-patient care for patients with Vascular problems.
  • To participate in the out of hours on call rota for vascular surgery
  • To share with colleagues the provision of Vascular advice to medical and surgical inpatients
  • To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the service
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, Resident medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
  • To participate actively in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance work to ensure continual improvements in the quality and safety of care
  • To participate in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • FRCS (Vascular)/FRCS (Gen Surg) or equivalent
  • Should have completed higher surgical training in General Surgery or equivalent with minimum 2 years vascular experience or a stand alone vascular training programme
  • Training in interventional radiology or endovenous laser treatment or duplex ultrasonography
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable:

  • You must be on the specialist register for vascular or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK.
  • Relevant higher degree
Experience and achievements
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in the management of all aspects of Vascular and Endovascular services
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within the specialty
  • Wide based experience within vascular surgery
  • Experience in renal access provision
  • Evidence of efficient management of resources (people, finance and materials) in a challenging, complex and fast moving environment
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and training
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff.
  • Experience of training medical undergraduates and post graduates. Conveys information clearly, checks understanding and ensures learning
  • Using a range of coaching techniques to help people understand and develop
Audit and research
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
