MSE Hospitals is inviting applications for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon to be based at Broomfield Hospital. The role supports expansion across three sites and growth in referrals, aiming to deliver a high-quality general urology service with scope to develop a subspecialty interest.

The post involves outpatient clinics, independent elective and emergency surgery, MDT participation, and consultant on-call duties (1 in 11). Education and teaching duties are an essential component.

Responsibilities

• Outpatient clinic services in urology; may include minor procedures.
• Perform elective and emergency urology operations, including day case surgery.
• Lead specialty clinics and participate in Urology MDTs.
• Pursue a special interest within Urology as appropriate.
• Supervise junior medical staff and uphold HR policies.
• Carry consultant on-call duties (1 in 11) with daytime cover and post-take ward rounds, contributing to the pelvic urology rota.
• Interest in education as essential criterion for applicants.

Job description

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeons here at at MSE Hospitals with Broomfield Hospital as the base site. Our Urology Service has been given the exciting opportunity to expand across all three sites and support our growth in referrals and build on our fantastic team. Consultant to be confident to carry out general urology duties and with an interest to complement the department, such as management of superficial bladder cancer, management of superficial bladder cancer or paediatric Urology. The purpose of this post is to provide and co-ordinate an effective general urology service and to develop a sub-specialty interest that complements the department. They are also expected to take part in all departmental activities, including on-call, audit and teaching., Please refer to the attached Job Specification for full details of what the job will require and details of each Job Plan for the week. • To provide outpatient urology clinic services; this may include minor procedures
• To perform independent elective and emergency operating including day case surgery
• To undertake speciality clinics and participate as a core member in Urology MDTs.
• Any responsibility which relates to a special interest;
• Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures;
• To provide consultant level Urology on call duties (1 in 11). This will include on site daytime cover and post take ward round, and to contribute to the pelvic urology on call rota. Essex's first medical school opened in Chelmsford at Anglia Ruskin University in 2018. The Trust therefore has redoubled its focus on education, as the students are now undergoing clinical rotations at the Trust's sites.
