A UK-based NHS Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Oncology to manage patients aged 0-19 years with solid tumours and leukaemia. The role involves participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, outpatient clinics, and providing cross-cover support for inpatient care. Ideal candidates will have a medical degree with specialist training in paediatric oncology. This position may offer flexible working options. The advert closes on Tuesday, 18 Nov 2025.
A whole‑time locum consultant post in Paediatric Oncology is available at the John Radcliffe Hospital / Children’s Hospital of Oxford. The post is for 10.0 programmed activities (PAs).
The postholder will work alongside the current permanent staff: three Paediatric Oncologists and three Paediatric Haematologists.
Applicants who are unable to work full‑time for personal reasons may be considered for a modified role. Suitable job‑share candidates will receive serious consideration.
The Children’s Hospital Oxford (CHOX) at the John Radcliffe Hospital (JRH) Campus is the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) providing tertiary haematology/oncology services for designated Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) in Swindon, Reading, Milton Keynes, High Wycombe/Stoke Mandeville and Slough (Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital). Outreach clinics are held at each POSCU.
Inpatient facilities are based on Kamran’s Ward at CHOX. The dedicated 9‑bedded ward provides care for patients requiring chemotherapy or management of treatment‑ or disease‑related complications. Other wards accommodate outliers when required. All surgical, laboratory and radiological services are co‑located at the JRH site.
There are approximately 115 new referrals per year of children with malignant disease, with the number of referrals increasing year on year.
The Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country, providing a wide range of general and specialist services and serving as a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals: the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
On‑treatment outpatient care is delivered on Kamran’s Day Care, a separate area for the administration of chemotherapy, blood products and patient assessment. The successful candidate will see patients and support Fellows/Staff Grade doctors in Day Care.
Tumour surveillance and follow‑up clinics for patients not on active treatment take place in the dedicated Children’s Outpatients. This site also hosts haematology follow‑up and benign haematology clinics, such as haemoglobinopathy, and hosts a large and active Paediatric Haemophilia service.
This advert closes on Tuesday 18 Nov 2025.
