Competitive salary from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, depending on experience.

A whole‑time post as locum Consultant in Paediatric Oncology is available now at the John Radcliffe Hospital/Children's Hospital of Oxford.
The post is for 10.0 programmed activities (PAs).
The postholder will work alongside the current permanent staff, three Paediatric Oncologists and three Paediatric Haematologists.

The Children's Hospital Oxford (CHOX) at the John Radcliffe Hospital (JRH) Campus is the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) providing tertiary haematology/oncology services for designated Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Units (POSCUs) in Swindon, Reading, Milton Keynes, High Wycombe/Stoke Mandeville and Slough (Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital). The unit has excellent relationships with paediatricians in the POSCUs. Outreach clinics for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology are held at each of the POSCUs.
Inpatient facilities are based on Kamran's Ward at the Children's Hospital Oxford. This dedicated 9‑beded ward provides care for patients requiring chemotherapy or for the management of treatment‑ or disease‑related complications. Other wards within the hospital are used to accommodate outliers when required. All surgical, laboratory and radiological services are co‑located in the JRH site. All Paediatric Haematology and Paediatric Oncology services are based at the JRH, with integrated oncology and surgical services. The delivery of radiotherapy for patients under 16 years of age is in transition to the UCLH clinical oncology service.
There are approximately 115 new referrals per year of children with malignant disease. The number of referrals has been increasing year on year.

Main duties of consultant:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients with solid and CNS tumours, and leukaemia and lymphoma aged 0‑19 years. The post holder will participate in the 1 in 6 consultant of the week system, providing cross cover for in‑patient activity, dealing with new referrals, initial diagnostic work‑up, planning and delivery of treatment and care.
The post‑holder will work as an integral member of the team, attending and contributing to the established Oxford multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. The post‑holder will share responsibilities to review patients on the day unit, supporting the fellows and staff grades, and independently lead outpatient clinics.
The postholder will provide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists within CHOX Children’s Services and paediatricians within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance. Haemophilia support and advice is provided by separate on‑call rota.
The on‑call weekend ward round is delivered by consultants, who will review all haematology and oncology inpatients and provide telephone advice for patients in POSCUs.
Cross‑cover of consultant colleagues is expected for periods of annual/study leave and sickness.
On‑treatment outpatient care is delivered on Kamran's Day Care, a separate area for the administration of chemotherapy, blood products and assessment of patients. The successful candidate will be expected to see patients and support the Fellows/Staff Grade doctors in Day Care.
Tumour surveillance and follow‑up clinics for patients not on active treatment occur in the dedicated Children’s Outpatients. Children’s Outpatients is also the site for haematology follow‑up and benign haematology clinics, e.g. haemoglobinopathy. A large and active Paediatric Haemophilia service is based in the outpatients clinic at CHOX.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
