Overview

We are pleased to invite applications for a Locum Consultant in Orthodontics for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), working across North Wales to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a great opportunity for an individual to experience the many benefits of living and working in Wales. This locum post is for up to 10 sessions, for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of further extension. Applications for part time or job sharing will be considered.

The post benefits from the recently agreed Welsh consultant pay scale. The post is subject to the Welsh Consultant contract, which has significant benefits when compared to the English Contract.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will collaborate with enthusiastic and supportive colleagues across the region to enhance the comprehensive Consultant service for North Wales. The post involves the treatment of severe and complex malocclusions to the highest standard and there is peer support provided across the region to optimise patient care and professional development. There is an emphasis on multi-disciplinary management including Orthognathic Surgery and collaboration with Restorative Dentistry. We have strong academic, teaching and training links with Liverpool Dental Hospital, Bangor and Edge Hill Universities, with quarterly Mersey, Cheshire & North Wales regional audit and Consultant group meetings.

  • Contribute to the Orthognathic Surgical Programme, in liaison with maxillofacial colleagues.
  • Contribute to the management of multidisciplinary cases with restorative and surgical colleagues.
  • Have the opportunity to support the North West Regional Cleft Lip and Palate Service, which provides orthodontic supervision and treatment of cleft cases in the unit's catchment area, when required, as part of a joint care approach.
  • Provide clinical instruction, as required, to junior members of the clinical team and the Orthodontic Therapists.
  • Provide ongoing training, as required, to primary care practitioners.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GDC Registration

Desirable

  • Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics, or equivalent before commencing the post or equivalent
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CSST in Orthodontics or equivalent
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery or equivalent
  • MSc or equivalent
  • Specialist Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent
  • Be on the GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics

Experience

Essential

  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum three year training programme in Orthodontics or equivalent
  • Commitment to continued professional development through lifelong learning.

Desirable

  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum two year training in a fixed term training appointment (Post-CCST/FTTA) in Orthodontics or within six months of completion of training which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of 3 years or equivalent
  • Experience in the management of craniofacial anomalies, including CLP
  • Demonstration of CPD log book.
