Locum Consultant Neuropsychiatrist

This is an exciting opportunity for a neuropsychiatrist to work at The Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy as a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist for 1 year fixed term.

Main duties of the job

As a consultant Neuropsychiatrist you will be running a specialist weekly clinic over a day at the Chalfont Specialist centre for Epilepsy, which is where the post will be based. In addition to clinic, you may have occasional requests to review inpatients in the telemetry unit or on the ward. These will have been admitted under the Consultant Neurologists for Epilepsy. There will be approximately 7 patient reviews in clinic. There will be 40 minutes allocated for clinic administration. You can actively contribute to the research, teaching and clinical governance activities of the department.

The successful candidate will have considerable neuropsychiatric experience and would have worked with patients who have epilepsy and non-epileptic attacks.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • On GMC Specialist List in Psychiatry or at the time of interview within 6 months of expected date of CCT
  • Eligible for Full UK GMC Registration or equivalent on GMC Psychiatry register in relevant Specialty within 6 months of expected date of CCT. (NB: Non- UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist register in relevant Specialty by the date of the appointment).
  • understanding of current changes in the management and organisational structures of the NHS
  • oknowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS
Clinical Experience
  • oknowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS
  • oCompleted a period of training and experience in Neuropsychiatry.
  • oExperience in assessing and treating patients with functional neurological symptoms.
  • oExperience working in a multi-disciplinary team and understanding of the different roles
  • oExcellent understanding of the needs of people with complex conditions and learning disability
  • oAn understanding of patient centred care and self-care approach.
  • oHigher trainee experience or consultant experience in a recognised neuropsychiatric post.
  • oHave worked within the context of an interdisciplinary / multispecialty team where the candidate has been able to obtain significant experience in the management of patients with complex neuropsychiatric problems.

  • oAppropriate to a consultant psychiatrist.
  • oDemonstrate an ability to perform the specific management of neuropsychiatric patients relevant to the post, including clinical risk.
  • oCan demonstrate that they have the skills to work within an interdisciplinary / multispecialty service
  • oDemonstrate an ability to identify and organise the specific clinical investigations and onward referrals relevant to the post
