Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed‑term post of 6 months. The shift pattern is rotational and on call.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of Consultant Transplant Surgeons at the West of Scotland Renal Transplant Unit, based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. You will work within a team providing adult renal transplantation for the West of Scotland and vascular access surgery plus surgery associated with renal failure for Glasgow, Clyde, Dumfries and Forth Valley regions. This post is offered on a 6‑session basis and available for immediate start.

The Acute Services Division of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde is the largest group of adult acute hospitals in Scotland. The Division provides Renal Services for Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Forth Valley Health Boards along with Renal Transplant Services for the West of Scotland. The Glasgow Renal and Transplant Unit has 65 inpatient beds at QEUH and currently supports approximately 600 haemodialysis patients, 50 peritoneal dialysis patients, over 1000 renal transplant patients and more than 200 patients per year with acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy. Around 150 new renal transplants are performed each year, of which around 50 are living donor transplants. There is also an extensive programme of dialysis access surgery including complex vascular access.
