A leading children's healthcare provider in Leeds is looking for a dynamic individual to join as Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive paediatric neurology service. Responsibilities include delivering outpatient clinics, participating in on-call services, and contributing to clinical research and teaching. Applicants should hold an appropriate medical degree and demonstrate clinical competence in paediatric neurology.
Weare looking to appoint a dynamic individual to join the PaediatricNeurosciences Department at the Leeds Childrens Hospital for 6 months, in thepost of Locum Consultant in Paediatric Neurology .This is an excitingopportunity to join a well-established and experienced multidisciplinary teamThe team comprises of over 20 specialist colleagues across physiotherapy,occupational therapy, psychology, speech and language therapy, neuropsychologyas well as specialist nurses and a paediatric trauma and rehabilitationcoordinator.
Thispost will deliver 8.5 PAs and will take part in a 1:5 on-call rota.
Thispost will deliver 8.5 PAs and the successful applicant will be part of a team delivering a comprehensive paediatric neurology service to theWest, North and East of the Yorkshire and Humber region. They will join the 5 existing Consultant Paediatric Neurologists (Dr Anne-Marie Childs, Dr KarenPysden, Dr Helen McCullagh, Dr Lydia Green and Dr MichealTaylor), Dr Cristina Martos Lozano a Consultant Paediatrician with expertise inPaediatric Neuromuscular disorders, 4 Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeons (MrJohn Goodden, Mr Atul Tyagi, Mr Gnanamurthy Sivakumar and Ms RebeccaChave-Cox). The post-holder will provide 1:5 cover on the paediatric neurologyconsultant acute week/on-call rota. The post-holder will provide out-patientclinics at the Leeds Childrens Hospital.
Thepost holder will work with the existing specialist multidisciplinaryneurosciences team in outpatients and on the dedicated neuroscience ward.Support will be given to develop specialised interests within PaediatricNeurology.
Thedepartment of paediatric neurosciences provides a comprehensive service to thechildren of West, East and North Yorkshire.
Inpatientservices are based at LTHT within a dedicated paediatric neurosciences unit.Outpatient clinics are held in Leeds and within all hospitals in the region aspart of the Yorkshire Paediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery Network.Subspecialty clinics are provided in epilepsy, neuro-oncology,neuro-rehabiliation, neuromuscular disease and complex motor disorders.

2.1 To deliver care to patients withpaediatric neurological conditions as follows:
Participate in the 1 in 5 paediatricneurology on call rota
Participate in neurologyclinician-to-clinician acute and elective hub discussions
Deliver out-patient clinics andcontribute to MDT discussions and care
2.2 The paediatric neurologists provide oncall cover via a hot week system on a 1 in 5 basis. The consultant of theweek is responsible of daily ward rounds of the neuroscience inpatients, andmanaging new referrals from within the Childrens hospital and the region,providing urgent clinical review and advice as needed. During the hot week, theon call consultants elective activity is suspended.
2.3 Outpatient clinics are provided at LeedsChildrens Hospital and in a number of the district hospitals across theregion. The successful postholder would be expected to undertake both generalneurology and subspecialty clinics depending on their own interests. Regionalclinics may be provided through the Hub model in discussion with theresponsible local paediatrician, or in outreach clinics off site.
2.4 The postholder will contribute toteaching, governance and service developments within the Paediatric neurologyDepartment. They will be encouraged to contribute to ongoing clinical researchactivity in the department. Personal research interests will also be encouragedand supported within the departmental research programme which is currentlyactive across neuromuscular disorders, epilepsy, headache and inherited whitematter disorders.
3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
3.1 Service Delivery
General
TheTrust expects consultants to deliver clinical service as agreed withcommissioners and other stakeholders.This will include:

working with other staff and teams toensure that the various criteria for service delivery are met, such as
o achieving the best clinical outcomeswithin the resources available

Consultantsin LTHT are line managed by their specialty Lead Clinician working inconjunction with a Business Manager.This specialty team is then managed alongside a number of otherspecialties in a Clinical Service (or Support) Unit (CSU) led by a ClinicalDirector as the responsible person and supported by a full time General Managerand a full time Head of Nursing.
TheClinical Director and their team report operationally to the Chief OperatingOfficer (COO). The Clinical Director will work closely with the Chief OperatingOfficers team which includes two Medical Directors for Operations, NurseDirectors for Operations, Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Assistant Directorsof Operations (ADOs) and a Performance Team, with each ADO aligned to specificCSUs.

Servicespecific
Theconsultant Paediatric Neurologist must hold Membership of the Royal College ofPaediatric and Child Health, or equivalent, and have completed higherspecialist training with sub-speciality accreditation in paediatric neurology.The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experienceand competence in all aspects of paediatric neurology. It is desirable that thecandidates have experience in clinical research in the field of paediatricneurology.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
