A leading healthcare trust in Leeds is seeking a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Hepatology to join a team dedicated to the assessment and treatment of children with complex liver diseases. This role offers the opportunity to work flexibly on a multidisciplinary team and contribute to high-quality patient care, research, and education in a supportive environment.
Thisis an exciting opportunity to join our Paediatric Hepatology department for 6months.
ThePaediatric hepatology team provide a comprehensive range of tertiary paediatrichepatology services such as acute and chronic liver disease, portalhypertension, or intrahepatic lesions. Examples include acute liver failure,biliary disease or structural abnormalities, metabolic liver disease, viralhepatitis, autoimmune disorders, cystic fibrosis, NAFLD, congenital hepaticfibrosis, Wilsons disease.
Outreachclinics are currently provided with colleagues in Manchester, Liverpool,Sheffield, Nottingham, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Thereis a multidisciplinary team of specialist clinical nurses, transplantcoordinators, dieticians, pharmacist, social worker, physiotherapist,occupational therapist, speech therapist, psychologist, youth worker and playtherapists.
Thesuccessful candidate will join a team of 4 consultants with a 1 in 5 on callrequirement on a 10PA contract. There are opportunities to develop aspecialised interest of the candidates choice and for the post to be extendedif it suits service needs.
ThePaediatric Hepatology Department in Leeds is a National Specialist Service forthe assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children who have a widerange of acute and chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, or intrahepaticlesions. Examples include acute liver failure, biliary disease or structuralabnormalities, metabolic liver disease, viral hepatitis, autoimmune disorders,cystic fibrosis, NAFLD, congenital hepatic fibrosis, Wilsons disease. Thedepartment has a close relationship with other specialties includingcardiology, nephrology, haematology and oncology and rheumatology, for jointmanagement of multisystem disorders.
Thedepartment receives approximately 300 new patients per year, and performs 20transplants, of which an increasing number are from live donors.
Futureproofing such an integral service to the vast population that we serve. Thedepartment has secured funding for a permanent position (to expand to 5 fulltime consultants). We anticipate that we will have substantive post advertisedwithin the next 6 months.

Theservice was designated a National Specialist Service in 2000, and became thethird centre to be recognised in the UK to provide Paediatric Hepatology andTransplantation. Since that time, the service has developed and expanded. Thedepartment receives approximately 300 new patients per year, and performs 20transplants, of which an increasing number are from live donors.
Outpatientclinics are run in the Paediatric Outpatient Department of Leeds ChildrensHospital at Leeds General Infirmary. In addition to General Hepatology clinics,there are weekly transplant clinics and subspecialty clinics in metabolic liverdisease, viral hepatitis, NAFLD and transition.
PaediatricHepatology inpatients are in ward L50, Clarendon wing in LGI. This is a sharedward with Paediatric Nephrology. There are 13 beds, including 2 high dependencybeds, and 9 isolation cubicles. There is an adjacent designated transplanttheatre and PICU within Clarendon Wing.
Thereis one general anaesthetic designated endoscopy/liver biopsy list per week intheatre and urgent procedures can be arranged any other day in the acutetheatre.
TheLeeds based liver clinics take place in the childrens outpatient suite inMartin Wing.
