Fixed‑term one‑year contract for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician with a Special Interest in Colposcopy and Vulval disease.

Location: Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

Contract: Fixed term/ Full Time (10 PAs).

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic, dedicated Consultant Obstetrician with a special interest in maternal medicine to join the expanding Women’s Health team at Newham University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward‑thinking, patient‑centred service within one of the UK's most diverse communities.

Job Summary

You will be expected to provide high‑quality care in both general obstetrics and gynaecology, with particular expertise in colposcopy and vulval disease.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the obstetric and gynaecological care for women with an interest in colposcopy, vulval disease, and other related conditions, ensuring the delivery of patient‑centred care.
  • Provide clinical expertise in the management of complex cases involving the cervix, vagina, and vulva, including colposcopy and vulval biopsy procedures.
  • Contribute to the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Collaborate with the gynaecological oncology team, sexual health services, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care to patients with vulval disease and abnormal cervical findings.
  • Ensure high standards of clinical governance, quality control, and safety in all aspects of the service.
  • Participate in regular audits, departmental meetings, and clinical governance activities.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
  • CCST/CCT (or equivalent), or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • ATMS in Obstetrics and Labour ward management.
  • ATMS or equivalent in Colposcopy.
Desirable Qualifications
  • ATMS or equivalent in vulval disease.
Essential Experience
  • Wide experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Desirable Experience
  • Quality improvement projects and/or research related to Obstetrics / Gynaecology.
  • Experience of the UK healthcare system.
Essential Knowledge
  • Record of completed audit projects.
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance and its application to Obstetrics.
