Job description
Overview

Applications are invited for a locum Consultant post for a period of 6 months to increase expertise in High‑Risk Obstetrics & Delivery Suite management within the Trust and to provide leadership and innovation within the Directorate of Maternity & Perinatal Medicine. The post will be based at MMUH, which delivers approximately 5,000 women per year and offers level 2+ NNU, full HDU and ITU care, as well as a co‑located midwifery‑led birthing unit and a comprehensive Fetal Medicine Unit.

The role includes clinical commitments with 1.5 PA support, and is a full‑time position. The post holder will join a team of experienced consultants to provide excellent maternity care, promote the national standards (e.g., Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle), and take part in delivering in‑house obstetric training.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality obstetric care within the delivery suite and high‑risk obstetrics services.
  • Lead and innovate in the management of the High‑Risk Obstetrics & Delivery Suite.
  • Promote in‑house delivery suite/obstetric training and simulation skills‑drills.
  • Exercise clinical and managerial responsibility for antenatal services, especially for disadvantaged mothers.
  • Work collaboratively with specialist midwives, community midwives, and allied regional services.
  • Contribute to the achievement of national standards such as the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle.
Qualifications
Required
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or expected within 6 months of interview).
  • RCOG ATSM Accreditation in Advanced Labour Ward Practice (or equivalent).
  • Full GMC registration with license to practice.
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Desirable
  • Higher degree (MD / PhD).
  • Completed or Instructor for PROMPT/MOET training.
  • Special interest that complements the existing consultants.
  • Experience in simulation and skills‑drills training in Obstetrics.
  • Experience in ADAU services and third trimester scanning.
  • Demonstrated interest in scanning – uterine and umbilical artery Dopplers.
