Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.

This is a replacement post for a full‑time fixed‑term Locum Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team in providing a comprehensive child and young people’s mental health service to North Warwickshire RISE. They will use leadership and team building skills, clinical expertise, and interactively offer consultation and support to wider service and allied professionals. They should also demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and training through participation in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Responsibilities

The post holder will support the work of the CAMHS and multidisciplinary teams, including reviewing patients with the multidisciplinary team, providing advice on complex cases, and holding an individual caseload.

Screening of new referrals will be managed through a single point of entry (Navigation Hub), directing appointments to the Assessment and Engagement Team and potentially to psychiatry via the weekly psychiatry referral team meeting.

Case load expectations: 1–3 new cases per week including emergencies and up to 16 follow‑up appointments (typically 12–14). Cases include complex Tier 3 clinic patients requiring consultant input.

Provide consultation within MDT meetings and specific patient consultations through the CAMHS Psychiatry Referral Meeting.

When patients are admitted to Tier 4 hospital, the consultant’s responsibility is held by the Tier 4 inpatient consultant team. The post holder will liaise with Tier 4 colleagues to facilitate smooth transfer of care between urgent and planned care.

Take part in Mental Health Act assessments, out‑of‑hours duties and act as Responsible Clinician.

Qualifications & Requirements

Criteria to apply include GMC registration and inclusion on the specialist register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The post holder must also be eligible for Approved Clinician Status and be Section 12 approved.
