Job description

Consultant Cardiologist – Electrophysiology (EP) – Locum Post

Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology (EP). This is a locum post integral to maintaining the service delivery of the EP/Devices Department at St Thomas’ Hospital.

The post-holder will be a fully trained and independent consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist. Responsibilities include performing outpatient clinics independently, running catheter‑lab electrophysiology interventions and device lists for investigation and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias, and participating in the Consultant‑of‑the‑Week and arrhythmia on‑call rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide outpatient care in the Electrophysiology Service.
  • Support the Cardiology team with managing the community service (Bexley) and provide regular outpatient provision for patients in this cohort.
  • Offer weekly Catheter‑Lab cover to help manage the demand for Electrophysiology and Device procedures, supporting the Service with its elective recovery efforts.
  • Provide on‑call cover and support ward and resident doctor teams to deliver a high standard of patient care.
  • Provide Consultant‑of‑the‑Week support for wider Cardiology services, including ward management and overseeing referral triage.
  • Supervise SpRs and clinical fellows in day‑to‑day workflow in catheter labs and wards.
  • Collaborate closely with Arrhythmia Clinical Nurse Specialists to determine which in‑patients require invasive investigations and coordinate inter‑hospital transfers for treatment.

• Fully qualified consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist.

• Proven experience in outpatient cardiology and EP/Device procedures.

• Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team environment.
