Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Locum Consultant in Anaesthesia for a six-month period, covering theatre sessions across Watford General Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. The post requires leadership in anaesthesia and commitment to patient care.

You will supervise trainees, participate in audits and governance, and support teaching and CPD. Flexibility to meet service needs is essential, with opportunities for research and professional development.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent required.
• FRCA or equivalent required.
• Must be on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
• Up-to-date evidence-based practice for adult and pediatric anesthesia in elective and emergency settings.
• Extensive UK-appropriate experience across a wide range of anaesthetic subspecialties.

Responsibilities

• Theatre lists (elective and emergency), including obstetric anaesthesia.
• Cover for periods of colleague absence (annual leave, etc.).
• Provide supervision and management of trainee and specialty medical staff.
• Participate in departmental governance, audits and consultant meetings.
• Engage in annual appraisal and revalidation; contribute to audit and service improvement projects.
• Encourage involvement in research and teaching trainees and students.
