Job summary

Venn Group is seeking a Locum Civil Litigation Lawyer for a Midlands-based Local Authority. The role is full-time, predominately remote with occasional court attendance, and offers an hourly umbrella rate of up to £55.

The successful candidate will manage a diverse civil and commercial caseload, with experience in property litigation viewed favorably, and provide strategic legal advice across the team.

Qualifications

• Experience in Civil Litigation Law, ideally within a Local Authority or Private Practice background.
• Knowledge of property litigation is a plus.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload and provide clear legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts and legal agreements.
• Manage a varied civil and commercial litigation caseload from pre-action to trial.
• Handle property litigation matters including landlord/tenant disputes and related claims.
• Ensure compliance with Civil Procedure Rules and Pre-Action Protocols.
• Provide dispute resolution strategies and risk management guidance.
• Represent the Council in Court, primarily via remote hearings with some attendance.

Position: Locum Civil Litigation Lawyer

Organisation: Midlands based Local Authority

Duration: 3-6 months +

Working Hours: Ideally Full Time, may consider 4 days for the right candidate

Working Arrangement: Predominantly Remote Working with occasional Court Attendance required

Hourly Rate: £55 per hour Umbrella dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced professional with a solid background in Civil Litigation Law, ideally gained within a Local Authority or Private Practice background. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload, with a particular advantage for those bringing knowledge of Property Litigation.

Duties may include:

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal agreements
• Manage a varied caseload of civil and commercial litigation matters, including debt recovery proceedings, from pre-action through to trial and enforcement
• Undertake property litigation work, including landlord and tenant disputes, forfeiture claims, trespass and encroachment matters, dilapidations, possession claims, and related proceedings
• Ensure compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules and relevant Pre-Action Protocols
• Provide legal advice on dispute resolution strategies and litigation risk management
• Ensure compliance with GDPR by overseeing data protection policies and practices
• Represent the Council in Court and conduct advocacy where appropriate, primarily through remote hearings with some Court attendance required
