Job summary

Locum consultant in medical oncology is sought to cover maternity leave for 12 months across Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, the Lister Hospital and New QEII. The role centers on supervising oncology treatment within MDTs and outpatient care alongside breast and upper GI teams, plus the Cancer of Unknown Primary MDT.

Entry to the GMC Specialist Register, or confirmed eligibility, decides fit. Flexible in NHS settings with a strong focus on clinical governance and teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications

• FRCPath or equivalent required.
• GMC Specialist Register entry or eligibility within 6 months of CCT.
• Broad haemato-oncology experience.
• Experience supervising undergraduates and trainees.
• Evidence of leading on patient safety and improving practice.

Responsibilities

• Supervise oncology treatment of patients with MDTs at Mount Vernon.
• Deliver a high-quality outpatient oncology service with breast and upper GI MDTs at the Lister and New QEII.
• Participate in the Cancer of Unknown Primary MDT.
• Deliver 10 programmed activities (PAs).
• Cover an on-call commitment.

Registration & licences

• Entry on GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT at interview, or GMC confirmed eligibility for entry

Experience

• Broad range of experience in haemato-oncology
• Experience supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
• Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Skills & knowledge

• Offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
• Evidence of engagement with clinical governance, identifying errors and learning from them

Other

• Evidence of being up to date and fit to practise safely, and aware of own training needs
• Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation

Nice to have
