Working Hours : Monday to Friday 8 : 30am4 : 30pm

Rate : Competitive dependent on experience

Job Overview

Pulse is currently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) to join the inpatient team at John Radcliffe Hospital. This locum role offers the opportunity to work across general medicine wards including care of the elderly cardiac respiratory emergency medicine trauma and a cardiothoracic critical care unit.

The successful candidate will provide advanced assessment and treatment for dysphagia and communication disorders and must be confident working flexibly across other inpatient caseloads such as Acute Neurosciences Critical Care and Acute Stroke.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of acutely unwell patients across general medicine wards
  • Deliver specialist assessment and treatment for dysphagia and communication disorders
  • Support other inpatient services as needed with clinical supervision
  • Provide line management and professional supervision to junior SLTs
  • Contribute to service development audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold professional standards
Essential Skills
  • HCPC registration (required)
  • Advanced competencies in at least one of the following : Tracheostomy care Videofluoroscopy / Modified Barium Swallow (VFS / MBS) Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) Experience in line management and clinical supervision Strong communication and clinical reasoning skills
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and service delivery projects
  • Experience in acute hospital settings
