Location: On site based in a GP practice in St Helens South

Rate: £50.00 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 3:00pm 6:00pm

Closing date: 16th January 2026

Duration: Clinics required until end of May

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of children and young people attending childrens clinics, working within agreed scope of practice and PCN governance arrangements.

The Role

St Helens South PCN Ltd is seeking an experienced Locum Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)to support ourChildrens Clinicsto be based in a GP practices in St Helens South Network.

This is a locum opportunity to cover weekday afternoon clinics, helping us to meet service demand.

  • Qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • Relevant experience working with children in primary care or similar settings
  • NMC registration with appropriate prescribing qualification
  • EMIS Trained
  • Ability to work autonomously within GP practice settings
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Appropriate professional indemnity

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis andmanagement of children and young people within agreed scope of practice
  • Prescribe medications in line with professional competence,local formularies and national guidance
  • Initiate investigations, interpret results and takeappropriate action
  • Refer to secondary care and community services as required
  • Escalate clinical concerns appropriately to the named GP orclinical lead
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical recordson practice clinical systems
  • Work collaboratively with the wider MDT, practice teams andPCN services
  • Adhere to PCN, practice and NHS policies, procedures andsafeguarding requirements

Professional & Governance Requirements

  • Work within NMC Code of Professional Standards
  • Maintain appropriate professional indemnity cover for locumpractice
  • Comply with CQC, safeguarding, infection control andinformation governance standards
  • Participate in local induction and follow agreed escalationpathways

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner with the NMC
  • Relevant ANP qualification and independent prescribing qualification
  • Experience of working autonomously in primary care or equivalent setting
  • Experience of assessing and managing children and young people
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Up-to-date mandatory training (including safeguarding children)
  • Experience working within GP practices or PCN settings
  • Familiarity with EMIS or similar primary care clinical systems
