IMH recruitment are looking for a reliable Local Taxation Officer to work on behalf of our client based in Oxford

Job Summary

A Local Taxation Officer is involved in the answering of enquiries, and creating and updating of accounts, in line with all relevant legislation, to ensure the correct billing and collection of the council tax and business rates charges

Duties
  • Processing incoming correspondence to assist in the collection of monies due.
  • Cross checking all available database systems, to verify liability and ensure the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates is done correctly.
  • Keep up to date and be fully conversant with evolving legislation practice and procedure and ensure that all actions are taken in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedure for Council Tax and Business Rates. Good understanding of Local Government Finance Act 1992, Local Government Act 1989 and subsequent secondary legislation affecting the administration of Council Tax and Business Rates.
  • Advanced knowledge and utilisation of specific IT software and web-based systems to obtain, provide and extract charge payer information.
  • Liaising with all departments of the Council, government departments, external bodies such as Debtors, Enforcement Agents, Collection Agents, and debt advice agencies.
  • Proactive engagement with large multi-national companies, rating agents, universities to establish accurate liabilities, and to correct liabilities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensuring that GDPR is adhered on all interactions, maintaining confidentiality.

  • Previous experience working in debt recovery or financial environment
  • Knowledge of MS 365
Hours and Pay
  • Monday - Friday
  • Specific working hours to be confirmed at interview stage
  • 37 Hours per week
  • £19.16 Per hour
