Burford Recruitment are delighted to be assisting a private household in their search for a professional and friendly Private Housekeeper & Cook to care for a much‑loved country home. This is a warm, welcoming household where the principal resides most of the time, with close family visiting for several days each month. The role offers an appealing balance and maintaining a beautiful home to a high standard without the intensity of a fully occupied residence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Housekeeping: Daily cleaning and laundry for a spacious 8‑bedroom country home.
  • Cooking: Preparing and batch cooking healthy, home‑style meals for the principal.
  • Cooking: 2–3 meals per day when family are in residence, occasionally for guests.
  • Shopping & Household Supplies: Managing grocery shopping and ensuring the kitchen and household are well stocked.
  • Light Gardening: Care for flower beds, weeding, and pruning (larger garden maintenance is handled by a gardener).
  • Dog Care: Feeding, walking, and occasional vet visits for the family dogs.
  • Driving & Errands: Running local errands, grocery shopping, and occasional driving to events, the train station, or Heathrow.
  • General Household Maintenance: Carrying out small fixes (such as changing lightbulbs) and liaising with contractors when needed.
Candidate Requirements
  • Discreet, trustworthy, and friendly
  • Flexible with working hours and happy to adjust to the Principal's schedule
  • A confident driver (essential)
  • Experienced and comfortable with animals, particularly dogs
  • Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail
  • A confident cook who enjoys preparing wholesome, varied meals
Accommodation

A lovely, self‑contained accommodation is provided on the estate, offering privacy and comfort.

Hours & Flexibility

Monday to Friday, with flexibility to occasionally work weekends when the family are visiting (a day off in lieu will be given).
