Private Live-In Chef - Hampshire (Liphook)

ASAP Start | £70K GPA | Live-In | Driver Essential | International & Domestic Travel

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and adaptable Private Live-In Chef to join a warm and informal family in Liphook, Hampshire. This is a wonderful opportunity for a capable and confident chef with a private household or yacht background who thrives in a busy, ever changing environment. The family has enjoyed the support of a chef previously but are now looking for the right long term fit, someone with a positive, can do attitude, who is child and pet friendly, and who can work with flexibility and initiative.

The Role

  • Based at the family's main residence in Liphook, you will cook for the principals (2 adults grandfather), extended family, and regular guests. Numbers range from 3-4 daily to up to 20 when entertaining, so the chef must remain calm under pressure and adaptable to changing requirements.
  • The role is hands-on with a strong emphasis on homemade, high-quality food: breads, baking, sausage rolls, cold cuts, roasts, chutneys, as well as vibrant family style dishes and elegant dinners when entertaining.
  • Menus will be varied and seasonal, drawing inspiration from Ottolenghi, Gold (Notting Hill), Asian, and Mexican influences, alongside classic British staples.
  • The family particularly values chefs who show initiative, can create menus around what is available and who will utilise the kitchen garden to its full potential.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner (flexible schedule depending on guests in residence).
  • Preparing children's meals (ages 3, 4, 7) - healthy, varied, and child friendly.
  • Weekly menu planning, provisioning, and stock rotation.
  • Maintaining exceptional kitchen hygiene and organisation across both the family kitchen and the chef's kitchen.
  • Ensuring food is well prepared in advance for days off (freezer/fridge stocked as required).
  • Flexibility to cater for events, parties (e.g. birthdays), holidays, and large gatherings.
  • Travel & work over holidays with the family, particularly to Cannes in July & August, as well as for Christmas, Easter, New Year, and other occasions.

Schedule & Structure

  • 5 days on / 2 days off (Usually Tues & Wed off)
  • All family holidays, celebrations, and peak seasons are worked, with time off in lieu provided.

Accommodation & Package

  • A flat is provided on the estate, separate from the main house (1-bedroom, furnished, well behaved pets considered).
  • Salary: £70,000 GPA (depending on experience).
  • Car provided for work purposes.
  • International and domestic travel required.

The Family & Household

  • Informal, welcoming household with 2 principals, grandfather, children & grandchildren, and extended family.
  • Support team includes a live in couple, 2 housekeepers and an estate grounds team.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven private/yacht chef background with checkable written references.
  • Strong organisation, initiative, and flexibility, able to adapt from intimate meals to large scale entertaining.
  • Must be child friendly and happy to involve the children with occasional baking and kitchen activities on occasion.
  • Excellent knowledge of food hygiene and safety.
  • DBS Enhanced Check.
  • Driver essential (car provided for work use only).
