Job description
Overview

Join a team of experts and progressive thinkers. Our Health and Care: Resolution team operates across England with four offices (Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and London), offering advice and assistance to health and social care organisations across a broad range of issues including clinical negligence, medical malpractice and human rights claims, inquests, Court of Protection and public law matters. We are one of ten firms that act for the NHS Resolution, putting us at the heart of claims and complaints brought against the NHS. Our Clinical Negligence team is highly regarded for their work acting on behalf of NHSR and NHS Trusts and in the defence of clinical negligence cases. In addition, we undertake healthcare and medical malpractice and regulatory work for a range of private insurers and private sector health and social care providers.

Role

We are seeking to recruit clinical negligence/medical malpractice consultants to join our consultant team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an excellent client base and experience high quality work but with flexible hours to suit you. Our consultants are self‑employed and work from home with office support. They undertake a mixed portfolio of work on a fixed fee and day rate basis. This is a new way of working for applicants who want to have the flexibility to choose when and how much work they do (depending on client demand). We would be happy to talk to any potential candidates coming from a more traditional role, who would be interested in transitioning to a consultant role, and our existing consultants would be happy to explain how the role works.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to solicitors undertaking pre‑litigated and litigated matters
  • Undertake pre‑litigation investigation and advisory work
  • Provide ad hoc legal services support to our clients
  • Support the development of relationships with NHS Resolution/Insurer clients and Trust/Insured clients
  • Liaise with Primary Care practitioners of various specialties and backgrounds
Qualifications
  • Previous clinical negligence, defendant medical malpractice/insurance, or PI experience
  • Ideally experience of claims against Primary Care practitioners
  • Strong communication skills with a professional approach to work
  • Confidence in working directly with clients
  • An ability to build strong interpersonal relationships
  • An aptitude for drafting and legal analysis
  • A keenness to work collaboratively with colleagues at junior and senior levels
  • Excellent project management skills
  • A practical and commercial approach
