Job description

Join us as a Literacy Intervention Support Worker : Empower Futures!

The Literacy Intervention Support Worker plays a key role in improving literacy outcomes for pupils at Progress Arc – Billinge, supporting learners with a broad range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Working under the direction of the SENCO and in close partnership with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will support the identification of individual literacy needs and deliver high-quality, evidence-informed interventions that enable pupils to develop their reading, writing and communication skills.

The role will support pupils with a diverse range of needs, which may include cognition and learning difficulties, autism, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, and complex or overlapping SEND profiles.

The post holder will use assessment and intervention evidence to understand individual starting points, establish measurable targets, evaluate impact and ensure that successful strategies are transferred into classroom practice. Literacy intervention should support pupils to access and make progress through their wider curriculum rather than operate in isolation from it.

Do you want to work for a company where wellbeing is more than a word, it’s a commitment? Somewhere where you can be an architect of someone’s future?

Well at Progress Arc, that’s just what we offer.

Our top-notch benefits go beyond the basics. Enjoy access to hundreds of discounts on everything from your daily coffee to weekly shop, discounted gym memberships and free access to dedicated counselling support. We’ve also recently introduced wellbeing days for when you need a day to reset. And because we know your passion is with pupils and not paperwork, we do everything we can to reduce the amount of surplus admin too.

Your work-life balance matters. That’s why we offer generous holidays, enhanced maternity and paternity leave for new parents and carers, and flexibility wherever possible.

And why do we do this? Because when you thrive, so do our students. We want to invest in your personal and professional growth as much as we do the young people who attend our schools.

But that’s not all, we also offer…

  • Professional Development: Support for professional qualifications, in-house training, including paid qualifications. Last year we invested approx. £3.5k per colleague!

  • Financial Security: Death in Service Insurance providing four times your salary.

  • Family-Friendly Policies: Enhanced Maternity/Paternity Leave.

  • Health and Wellbeing Cashback: Access to Medicash for you and your dependants, covering the costs of eye tests, optical, dental, prescriptions, and holistic treatments up to £900 annually.

  • Recognition Awards: Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Recognition Awards.

  • Referral Bonus: £500 for referring top talent.

  • Exclusive Discounts: MiRewards benefits platform, offering loads of discounts and rewards

  • Weekly drop ins with Senior Leaders: Connect, clarify and communicate with weekly drop-ins with our Managing Director and organisation SLT

  • Group Connection: Annual Group conference and a comprehensive benefits review.

What are we looking for from you?
  • Support: Evidence of ongoing professional development in SEND, literacy, or education support.

  • Qualifications: A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, literacy support, SEND or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience within an education setting. Training or certification in specific literacy intervention programmes (e.g., Lexplore, Toe by Toe, Read Write Inc., Fresh Start, etc.) - desirable

  • Experience: Experience of working effectively with children or young people with SEND

  • Knowledge: Experience of delivering structured interventions or targeted learning support.

  • Promotion of Values: Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, safeguarding, wellbeing, and British values.

  • Time Management: Effective time management for planning, delivery, and assessment.
