Job description
Overview

DRW is a diversified trading firm with over 3 decades of experience bringing sophisticated technology and exceptional people together to operate in markets around the world. We value autonomy and the ability to quickly pivot to capture opportunities, so we operate using our own capital and trading at our own risk.

Headquartered in Chicago with offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia, we trade a variety of asset classes including Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy across all major global markets. We have also leveraged our expertise and technology to expand into three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

We operate with respect, curiosity and open minds. DRW is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.

Responsibilities

DRW is actively seeking a Linux Engineer for our Linux Engineering Team. Our team is responsible for providing consistent, high performing, stable infrastructure for trading desks, developers, and our other internal customers. We take pride in enabling traders and engineers to run their applications at the bleeding edge. As a team, we are continually looking for ways to improve our system and make sure it runs smoothly. At DRW, we find ways to push all aspects of technology to their limit, and the Linux Engineering Team plays a key role. We don’t just churn through tickets; we actively engage with our users and seek to understand what they need from their Linux environment. We are systems engineers at heart: we take interest and responsibility for success above and below the OS layer. We are internally motivated people who take ownership of issues and projects and consistently follow through. If you have a strong belief in automation, consistency, scalability, and simple design, you’ll be right at home.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Collaborating with a global Linux Engineering team for coordinating work, engineering projects, changes, and on-call schedules
  • Serving as a liaison between the Linux Engineering team and trading desks and teams
  • Configuring, deploying and maintaining DRW’s Linux environments in a declarative and repeatable manner using Ansible
  • Actively monitoring the health of our entire Linux server environment using Prometheus; performing day to day troubleshooting
  • Application packaging and maintenance of software repositories
  • Evaluating and recommending new hardware and software technologies or solutions

  • Highly adept at debugging and troubleshootingusing command line tools (e.g. ss, iostat, dig, ethtool)
  • Extensive Linux support and engineering experience in a high availability environment (RedHat/Debian-based, or similar variants)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Excellent grasp of IP networking fundamentals, protocols and services
  • Experience with monitoring/alerting with Prometheus/AlertManager/PagerDuty
