Job summary

AB Volvo in Ely offers a six‑month training conversion from Light Vehicle Mechanic to HGV Technician with fully funded hands‑on workshops and expert tuition at Volvo’s training facility.

You’ll spend one week each month at the training centre with travel and accommodation paid, then apply skills in our workshops and earn a Level 3 Technical Certificate on completion.

Qualifications

• Requires City and Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Light Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
• IT literacy is required for job paperwork and systems.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections, MOT preparation, diagnostic work and fault finding on trucks and buses.
• Perform repairs on engines, gearboxes, brakes and suspension systems.
• Learn to use Volvo in‑house systems and complete job cards and service sheets.

Once individuals have finished the program, they will be awarded by the IMI with a Level 3 Technical Certificate in HGV Maintenance & Repair

If you're an experienced Light Vehicle Mechanic, this is your opportunity to transition into a rewarding career as an HGV Technician with our fully funded 6-month training Programme.

You'll gain hands‑on experience in our workshops while receiving expert tuition at our dedicated in‑house training facility. Throughout the Programme, you'll spend one week each month at our training centre, with all travel and accommodation expenses fully paid

Working hours: Rotating Shift:

Monday to Friday - 0600hrs to 1400hrs/1400hrs to 2200hrs

Saturday overtime is available from 0700hrs to 1300hrs @ time and a half

• City and Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent, in Light Vehicle Repair and Maintenance
• Light vehicle experience – proven work experience on cars, vans, plant or motorbikes.
• IT literate.
• Able to demonstrate knowledge and experience as a LGV Technician/Vehicle Technician/Plant Mechanics

About the role

Your role will involve carrying out inspections, MOT preparation, diagnostic work and fault finding, carrying out repairs on engines, gearboxes, brakes and suspension systems on trucks and buses. You will also learn to use Volvo’s in‑house systems and complete paperwork such as job cards and service sheets. We will help and support you to learn to work to Volvo Service Times.
