Library Assistants (3 posts) - 8.25 hours per week

From 1 December 2025, National Council’s updated Pay and Reward package takes effect, introducing a new approach to recognising and rewarding roles across the Council. The salary for this role is set at a pay range of £27,254 – £29,540 (pro‑rata for part‑time).

Role Purpose

We are looking for people to join our existing Library teams, delivering important services to local communities. The three part‑time Library Assistant posts will support operations and customer service in three libraries.

Locations and Hours
  • Parkstone Library – 8.25 hours per week
  • Canford Cliffs Library – 8.25 hours per week (temporary post until 13 August 2026)
  • Pokesdown & Southbourne Library – 3.5 hours per week (temporary post until 2 June 2026)
Main Responsibilities
  • Assist in the effective and efficient operation of the library as part of a team.
  • Provide excellent customer service, resolving enquiries at first point of contact or referring them as appropriate.
  • Aid the public in the use of IT and other library services.
  • Promote the library as a community venue by developing and delivering events and activities for children, young people and adults.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experienced in a busy customer‑service environment with the ability to engage positively with customers of all ages.
  • Capable of working effectively in a team and independently, showing a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Availability to work Saturdays.
