Main duties of the job

As a Level 3 Senior Carer, you will be at the heart of our care home's daily operations. Your primary duties will include providing compassionate, hands-on personal care to our elderly residents, while also taking a leading role in supervising and supporting a team of care staff. You will be responsible for creating and updating individual care plans, administering medication, and maintaining accurate records in line with CIW standards.

A key part of your role will be to mentor junior team members, champion dignity and respect in all care practices, and act as a point of contact for residents' families. You will ensure the well-being and safety of our residents is always the top priority, fostering a positive, homely, and engaging environment for all.

Job responsibilities

1. Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care to elderly residents within a Ceredigion-based care home, acting as a senior member of the care team. You will take a lead in supervising daily care activities, ensuring compliance with CIW standards, and promoting the dignity, well-being, and independence of all residents.

2. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical and Personal Care:

Provide compassionate, hands-on personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting, and feeding, in a manner that respects the dignity and individuality of each resident.

Safely administer, record, and store medication in accordance with prescribed guidelines and company policy.

Monitor and report on the health and well-being of residents, recognising and responding to any changes in condition.

Undertake clinical procedures as required and for which training has been given (e.g., catheter care, stoma care).

Leadership and Supervision:

Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to a team of Care Assistants.

Act as a designated key worker for a group of residents, taking responsibility for the planning, implementation, and review of individualized care plans.

Mentor and support new and junior staff members, promoting best practices and a positive team culture.

Compliance and Documentation:

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records relating to resident care, daily logs, and incident reports.

Ensure all practices comply with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) regulations and company policies and procedures.

Promote and uphold the principles of safeguarding for vulnerable adults at all times.

Communication and Teamwork:

Act as a effective and professional point of contact for residents, families, and healthcare professionals.

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment.

Participate in handovers, team meetings, and training sessions as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • A recognised Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Current and valid registration with the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).
  • Proof of right to work in the UK.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Carer or Team Leader within an older peoples care home setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CIW standards and safeguarding procedures.
  • Demonstrable experience in medication administration and care planning.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • The ability to work flexibly, including days, nights, and weekends.
