Job description

Service Assistant L1 - Permanent
Hours of work: 10 hours a week, Term Time - Monday - Friday 12.00pm - 2.00pm.
Start: Jan 2026 (Date to be confirmed at interview). There is an expectation that you may need to attend training or staff meetings outside of your working hours; this will be paid as overtime.

Salary details: FTE: LG Band 1, point 2. Actual Salary: £5,488 - £5,613 based on experience.

Moat Community College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our Catering team. Moat runs its catering provision in‑house, meaning all catering staff are employed directly by the school.

Ideally, for this role, we are looking for someone who holds a level 2 food hygiene certificate and has experience within a similar role. You will be a hardworking individual with a flexible can‑do attitude, an organised approach, comfortable in a customer‑facing environment, and assisting with the smooth operation of our food service. You will work well under pressure in a fast‑paced working environment, enjoy learning new skills, and have enthusiasm for working in a school environment. You will have an awareness of food‑handling procedures and have previously worked as part of a team. An outstanding Service Assistant should comply with all food and health and safety regulations. The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification and job description, see 'supporting documents'.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate tills and process food and beverage sales accurately.
  • Ensure that transactions are processed quickly and efficiently to minimise wait times.
  • Serve food and beverages to students and staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues calmly and efficiently, escalating to the line manager when necessary.
