Job summary

Merton Council is seeking experienced RYA Senior Instructors to join the Wimbledon Park Watersports Centre senior team. The role involves delivering paddlesport sessions, with 35 contracted hours per week, including some weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

Applicants should hold RYA Senior Instructor (dinghy) and paddlesports qualifications, with strong communication skills and experience coaching diverse groups. Desirable extras include RTC experience and additional ratings.

Qualifications

• RYA Senior Instructor (dinghy) qualification required.
• Paddlesports experience and willingness to learn.
• Excellent communications skills demonstrated.
• Experience coaching adults and children including those with additional needs.
• Desirable: RTC experience and additional paddlesport qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality sessions across paddlesport activities, including taster sessions, 5-day children’s holiday courses and 2-day sailing/powerboat courses.
• Support the Wimbledon Park Watersports Centre senior team in day-to-day management.
• Assist in maintaining centre facilities and equipment.
• Support development of staff and volunteers.
• Act as instructor in charge and keyholder when required.

Grade/Salary: ME9 £30,585 - £31,557 per annum

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic RYA Senior Instructors to join the senior team at Wimbledon Park Watersports Centre.

These roles require an adaptable approach with successful candidates working a flexible 35 contracted hours per week which will be higher or lower on a given week according to demand and will include some weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

• RYA Senior Instructor (dinghy)
• Paddlesports Experience (either qualified instructor, experienced personal paddling or willingness to learn)
• Excellent communications skills
• Experience in coaching adults and children including those with additional needs

Desirable:

• BCAB Paddlesports Instructor (or British Canoeing Instructor) or higher paddlesport qualification (e.g. BCAB Performance Coach)
• RYA Powerboat Instructor
• At least one year's experience working in a Recognised Training Centre (RTC) as an active Senior Instructor
• RYA Windsurf Instructor
• Racing/Advanced Instructor endorsements
• You will have good technical knowledge of the RYA

Duties include:

• Delivering high quality sessions across various activities. The majority of which will be taster paddlesport sessions, 5-day children's holiday courses and 2-day RYA sailing/powerboat courses.
• Supporting the WPWC senior team in managing and running the centre day-to-day.
• Assisting in maintaining the centre facilities and equipment.
• Supporting the development of staff and volunteers
• To act as the instructor in charge (deputised by the management when offsite) and as a keyholder
