Job summary

North Somerset Council is seeking a dedicated Leisure Officer to join the Leisure Service. The role focuses on delivering the Council’s Sport and Leisure Facility Strategy, coordinating with contractors on facility delivery, and supporting housing development needs to enhance residents’ health and wellbeing.

The role requires NVQ qualifications, budget oversight experience, and strong contractor collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 literacy & numeracy or equivalent.
• NVQ level 4 qualifications or equivalent to demonstrate technically specific skills.
• Experience of budget monitoring and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Ensure leisure centres meet contract responsibilities (health & safety, cleanliness, compliance).
• Arrange and attend monthly client meetings with contracted sites and Leisure Manager.
• Identify and action council liability repairs and maintenance with contractors.
• Monitor delivery of the leisure contract and new agency delivery model under Leisure Manager.
• Monitor repair and maintenance budgets under Leisure Manager.

The role.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Leisure Officer to join our Leisure Service. The Leisure Service Team are responsible for the deliveryoftheCouncil’s Sport and Leisure Facility Strategy,thisidentifiesthe need forthe provision of new facilities associated with new housing developments, community developmentandworksclosely withourcontractors on the continued delivery of leisure facilities across theauthority.All of these playa major rolein enhancing the opportunities for residents to live healthy lives.

Key responsibilities.

• Ensuringleisurecentres are meeting contract responsibilities including responsibilitiesincludingareassuch ashealth and safety,cleanliness and complianceand organising rectification for non-conformance.
• Arrange and attend monthly client meetings with contracted sites with theLeisureManager,recording and actioning any areas of concern whenrequired.
• Identifyingandactioning council liablerepairs and maintenance issues,through partnership working with contractors.
• Under the direction of the Leisure Managermonitorthedelivery of the leisure contract,including the new agency delivery model.
• Monitor the repair and maintenance budgets, under the direction of the Leisure Manager.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Work style.

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

• 2-3 days in the office (pro rata)
• Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
• Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.

About you.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the provision of sport, leisure and community facilities, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

• NVQ level 2 literacy & numeracy or equivalent.
• NVQ level 4 qualifications or equivalent todemonstratetechnically specific skills relating to theappropriate areaof work.
• Experience of budget monitoring.
• Ability to work with contractorsand engage with thegeneral public.
• Ability to manage/organise own work to meet agreed deadlines.
• Experience ofhigh valuecontracts and monitoringresponsibilities, ideally in the leisure industry.
• Experience of client meetings with contractors.
• Additionalmodular vocational units or other technical qualifications specific toparticular areasof the service.
• Awareness and general understanding of the service area technical protocols,regulationsand relevant legislation.
• Experience of working with external partners to achieve outcomes.
