Legal Secretary – Private Client

Salary: £27,000

Hours: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm (office-based)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Secretary to join a busy and supportive Private Client department. We are seeking a professional, organised individual with prior experience in Private Client work who can provide high-quality secretarial support to the team’s lawyers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a comprehensive secretarial service, including audio and copy typing, word processing and document preparation.
  • Open and manage files in accordance with internal procedures and Lexcel standards.
  • Handle filing, time recording and the completion of standard legal forms.
  • Liaise with clients both in person and over the telephone, taking accurate messages and progressing matters where appropriate.
  • Make outgoing calls to clients and third parties, providing information and taking action without constant reference to a lawyer where suitable.
  • Carry out basic accounts procedures and prepare accounts documentation.
  • Use initiative to progress standard fee-earning tasks under supervision.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to support the Private Client team.

  • A solid understanding of basic legal practice relevant to Private Client work.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to deal sensitively and professionally with bereaved or distressed clients.
